64GB iPhone 4 leaks, but doesn't necessarily point to iPhone 5 feature

Is Apple planning a 64GB model of the iPhone 5? M.I.C. Gadget, which has mostly been in the headlines of late when Apple legal told them to halt sales of more than one Steve Jobs action figures, got its hands on a 64GB iPhone 4.

You might ask why an iPhone 4, but anyone recalling the Gizmodo dust-up from last year when the site got its hands on a lost iPhone 4, will remember that the device was in an iPhone 3GS case, to avoid attracting attention.

M.I.C. Gadget said:
Apparently, this 64GB iPhone 4 is not for sale in grey markets of Hong Kong. The owner of this engineered prototype told us that he got it from a source who has a small quantity of these prototypes. They are definitely leaked from Foxconn's factory in Shenzhen. What's more, according to the owner, he believes that the next iPhone will bring 64GB storage capacity to users. Well, we think Apple is planning to update the iPhone 4 with small upgrades, at least featuring a new 64GB mode.
That would be interesting, if the iPhone 5 was just an incremental upgrade to the iPhone 4.

On the other hand, the serial number of the device points to it being manufacturered in early 2010. That means it is probably just a discarded prototype from that generation of iPhone. It's also carrying only iOS 4.1, which points to a similar conclusion.  It seems to be a real prototype of some type, though, as it features the “XXGB” stamping on its back that we saw with the leaked iPhone 4.

The leaked prototype reportedly came from a Foxconn source.  Really, though, extra storage isn't very exciting nowadays.  Watch a hands-on demo below.
