Facebook enters video rentals with 'The Dark Knight' and Warner Bros. Deal

The next big rival for Netflix may not be Hulu, or Amazon.com, or YouTube, but instead Facebook. Warner Bros. announced on Tuesday March 8 that as an "test," Facebook would be renting a streamed version of "The Dark Knight," on itsofficial Facebook fan page.

Granted, the movie's kinda old, but the experiment is new, and there's no reason it shouldn't work. In fact, it's unclear why it's being called an experiment: the press release says the program will expand to digital movie purchases in the "near future."

To rent the video, go over to http://www.facebook.com/darkknight and click "Watch" in the left sidebar. The press release says it will be "rent," but it's actually "Watch." The movie rental will cost you 30 Facebook credits, or $3.

Viewers have 48 hours to watch a film after renting it. The movie can be made full-screen, paused, resumed, etc. during that period.

Facebook fans, what do you say? Do you "like" this idea, and will it draw you away from other streaming video sites?
