iPhone 5 engineering drawings portray larger edge-to-edge screen design

iDealsChina, a Chinese parts supplier who earlier showed off a digitizer panel for the iPhone 5, that showed an edge-to-edge, larger screen, has come forth with engineering drawings that seem to support that contention.

These sorts of engineering drawings would be used by, for example, case makers to create their designs before the device launches. The cases we see early often are remarkably accurate.

That said, while the earlier part photo supports it, it also came from the same source; a different source would be more supportive of the idea. A separate part leak seemed to decry the authenticity of the earlier image.

It was earlier said, however, that Apple was looking toward a 4-inch screen design, up from 3.5 inches. to better compete with Android phones that have 4.0, 4.3 or even 4.5 inch screens. This design could give Apple a screen comparable to a Samsung Galaxy S phone, without have to increase the size of the iPhone 5. On the other hand, it's not a significant change in terms of external design, which may be both good, and bad, as many have said the reason Android has been so successful in terms of smartphones is its multiple form factors.
