Android is for porn, or at least so said Apple CEO Steve Jobs, but the App Store is where the money is. At least, that's the way it's been believed, but a report on March 9 points to times a'changing.
Spacetime Studios is the company involved. They are the developers of mobile MMORPG Pocket Legends (iPhone, Android). Pocket Legends relies on in-app purchases for much of its monetization.
According to Spacetime Studios Android users are twice as active than iOS users, in "practically every measure." Spacetime says that the game is downloaded about 9,000 times a day on Android, and only 3,000 to 4,000 time saily on iOS. Android users who have the game use it about three times more than their Apple counterparts.
That activity leads to more money. The company says it's making about 30 to 50 percent more from Android than iOS. Clearly, in-app buying for iOS is better than on Android, as Google won't even be rolling the standard Android service until May, it's believed.
Not only that, Pocket Legends also has ads, and Android users click ads about three times as much as iOS users, according to Spacetime's own figures. Android users also end up making purchases as a result of ad clickthroughs twice as often as iOS users.
That, of course, could just point to being a cheapskate on the part of iOS users, or perhaps more compelling Android ads.
