In wake of iPad 2 announcement, Samsung to reconsider Galaxy Tab 10.1 pricing, specs

Hardware-wise, if you compare the Motorola Xoom against the iPad 2, it compares well. In fact, it surpasses the iPad 2 in several areas, including screen resolution, front- and rear- facing camera resolution, possibly RAM (most are betting the iPad 2 RAM spec is less than the 1GB that the Xoom carries, but it's unknown until a teardown is done). Apparently, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 doesn't spec out so well.

It's unclear where exactly the Galaxy Tab 10.1 falls short, but at least one thing was mentioned: thickness. Apple reduced the thickness of the iPad 2 from the original's 13.4mm to 8.8mm. Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 was supposed to be 10.9mm. That's one place that the Xoom misses, as well. The Xoom is 12.7mm, thinner than the iPad, but not the iPad 2.

Lee Don-joo, executive vice president of Samsung's mobile division, said the following:
"We will have to improve the parts that are inadequate. Apple made it very thin."
That's not all. Samsung said they would probably re-evaluate pricing on the Galaxy Tab 10.1. In fact, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was supposed to be priced higher than the Galaxy Tab S 7-inch model, which many already said was overpriced.

It was indeed a strange decision to up the new tablet's price in the first place. To be competitive with the iPad, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 would have to at least have a comparable price. Although people have criticized the Motorola Xoom's pricing, when compared to the correct iPad or iPad 2 in terms of comparable specs, it is actually right in line. The Xoom (without a contract) sells for $799. The iPad and iPad 2 with 3G and the same 32GB of storage runs $729 (but a comparison of their specs indicates that even the iPad 2 falls short in some areas, meaning that the pricing is (realistically) correct.

That doesn't mean it's correct in terms of market perception, however.
