Google has launched a version of Person Finder to aid people in finding loved ones in the wake of the magnitude 8.9 earthquake that struck Japan on Friday. The quake triggered a tsunami which did untold damage to localities, as well. In the wake of the disaster, Google has launched a Person Finder Page dedicated to the Japan Earthquake.
Google has released Person Finder apps in the past, notably for the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile in 2010. It was, in fact, first introduced after the Haiti quake.
The site, available in multiple languages including Japanese and English, allows people to both inquire about a missing person, or provide information about someone.
The Google Person Finder for the Japan Earthquake can be found here. At the time of this writing, the tool has some 7,200 records about people involved in the quake.
